Amy Viola

What happens when a classical violist breaks free of traditional boundaries and launches into looping and songwriting? A uniquely crafted, soulful and raw account of her life as a gypsy musician told amidst sweet vocals and layers of deep, rich strings.

This is Amy Viola, an exciting new solo artist weaving classical, bluegrass, folk and roots together to create songs that express the fragility of life and the beauty that is found in the face of death.

Amy’s captivating, intricate performances blend musicianship, creativity and soaring melodies as she draws inspiration from indie artists such as Andrew Bird, Gillian Welch and Joni Mitchell.

Staring on violin at the age of four, Amy trained at the Sydney Conservatorium on viola and went on to work overseas in the US, UK and Europe as a chamber and orchestral musician. She studied composition with Matthew Hindson and Anne Boyd, and in 2018 premiered her first orchestral work 'Sanctus Somnus' with the Orange Symphony Orchestra. Amy has been recorded on ABC Classic FM and 2MBS FM, and presented as a soloist at the prestigious International Musician's Seminar in Prussia Cove, UK.

Amy is currently writing for her debut album, which will be released in 2019.
